Attempted murder plea hearing for Wellsville man now set for July 29
LISBON — A plea hearing is now scheduled for 1 p.m. July 29 for Michael Stacy, the Wellsville man accused of attempted murder and other charges related to his alleged attack against a woman last year.
Stacy, 35, 19th Street, appeared briefly for a final status hearing Monday in front of Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton, who reported she was informed the case was resolved.
The plea hearing is set for the same day that Stacy was previously scheduled to face a jury trial for the numerous charges. He was accompanied by his defense attorney Charley Kidder. The state was represented by county Assistant Prosecutors Alec Beech and Tammie Riley Jones.
Stacy remains in custody at the Columbiana County jail under a $100,000 cash or surety bond.
Besides the first-degree felony attempted murder count, the charges against him include felonious assault, a second-degree felony, two counts of attempted aggravated arson, one a second-degree felony and one a third-degree felony, third-degree felony abduction and fourth-degree felony trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present. The attack allegedly occurred on Oct. 17, 2024.
Columbiana County Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino said previously that the defendant hit the woman “severely enough that we believe he was going to kill her.”
He said the defendant trespassed on the property and used a wooden object to hit the woman over the head.
When police arrived at the property, Abruzzino said officers found all the burners on the stove on, wide open, leading to the attempted arson charges. The second-degree felony count involved the risk of harm to the woman and the third-degree felony count involved the possible risk to the home.
