Retired fire chief laid to rest

Retired Fire Chief Gary McCoy, Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD), was laid to rest Tuesday at Columbiana County Memorial Park in Calcutta with full fire department honors including presentation of the American flag and a final call.
McCoy, who passed away Friday, served with the CVFD from 1971 to 2025 as a firefighter, including as chief from 1978 to 1990.
The funeral was attended by McCoy’s family firefighters from CVFD, Liverpool Township Volunteer Fire Department, Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Department, East Liverpool Fire Department, Chester (West Virginia) Fire Department and officers from the St. Clair Police Department.
McCoy was the father of current CVFD Fire Chief Dave McCoy, who drove the lead car in the funeral procession for his father.
Chester and East Liverpool fire department provided the ladder trucks for the raised American flag which the procession drove under.
The funeral services were provided by Care Funeral Home-Calcutta.
