Commissioners award paving contracts

LISBON — With the weather breaking and paving season around the corner, the Columbiana County Commissioners awarded contracts for two major street improvement projects in the county at its regular meeting on Wednesday morning at the downtown Lisbon courthouse.

Lindy Paving, Inc. of New Gailiee, Pa. was awarded both for street paving projects in Salem and in Lisbon, funded through Columbiana County’s Community Development Block Grant funding.

In Salem, East Fourth Street, East Fifth Street and East Sixth Street will be resurfaced. The engineer’s estimate for the project totaled $335,094. The awarded bid was $292,913.

In Lisbon, East Washington Street will be resurfaced from Market Street to state Route 45, with the engineer’s estimate totaling $200,767. The awarded bid came in at $173,898.

In other matters, the commissioners approved a TANF contract with NESCO Resource which specializes in staffing for manufacturing and civil/structural industries, passed a resolution regarding the sublease with the Eastern Ohio Correction Center (EOCC) in Lisbon and established a new fund for Community Development Block Grant Program funds from 2024.

The commissioners also approved travel requests for an EMA nuclear exercise to Oak Harbor ($975) and sheriff drug investigator training in Columbus ($360).

In financial items, the commissioners approved an amended certification and appropriations of $13,888 for Municipal Drug Court and approved the following then and now bills: Corsa $422,327 (commissioners), Paul Morris Auto Repairs $1,500 (sheriff), Smartbill LTD $12,700 (treasurer), JH Consulting LLC $1,500 (EMA) and Winkler Automotive $2,500 (veterans).

The next meeting of county commissioners will be 9 a.m. April at commissioners chambers inside the courthouse.
