Tri State Coon Hunters Club to host Ohio Boater Safety Course

EAST LIVERPOOL – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will hold an Ohio Boater Education Course on Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tri-State Coon Hunters Sportsman Club, 2601 Irish Ridge Road. The class is free and open to Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia residents.

Upon passing an exam at the end of the day, participants will receive an Ohio Boating License which has reciprocity in 50 states. Individuals born on or after Jan. 1, 1982, must have a valid boating license to operate a vessel of more than 10 horsepower, including jet skis.

ODNR Officer and course instructor Stephanie Uber said that many people feel they don’t need the license because they are grandfathered if they were born before Jan. 1, 1982.

“However, at the end of the class, they tell me they are glad they came because the laws do change and they learned quite a bit,” Uber said. “Additionally, because we live in an area that is bordered by two other states, it is extremely useful to have a license that is recognized by those states.”

Registration is required. To register, contact Rick Manning, at 740-296-3546. Lunch will be available at a nominal fee.

Starting at $2.99/week.
