EAST LIVERPOOL — Youngstown Bomb Squad was called to an East Liverpool residence Tuesday afternoon after members of the Columbiana County Drug Task Force (DTF) discovered a pipe bomb while executing a search warrant.
According to DTF Director Jesse Smith, the bomb squad respond and helped neutralized the bomb from which the components are being sent to the FBI for lab testing.
DTF officers also recovered a gun, and an unspecified amount of miscellaneous drugs and drug paraphernalia indicative of drug trafficking during the search at 709 Sophia St.
Smith said the search yielded a number of different kinds of pills that appeared to be packaged for sale, and they also found a gun.
William Barrett Sr. and his son, Justin Barrett, no ages or addresses listed for either, were both arrested for obstructing official business. Additional charges could be added pending lab results.
There was a third male present, Michael Howard, no age or address listed, who was arrested on an outstanding parole warrant.
Smith noted there was a warrant served at the same residence several years ago and said he believes it was the Barretts arrested in that one as well.
The city housing department was called out to the residence due to raw sewage in the basement, which resulted in the house being condemned.
