Wellsville Library to host Harriet Tubman one-woman show

WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville resident Eddie Murphy will bring Harriet Tubman to life in her Harriet Tubman One-Woman show hosted by the Wellsville Carnegie Public Library.
A media release from the library described the late Tubman as an African American abolitionist and former enslaved woman who escaped to freedom and became a key conductor on the Underground Railroad, leading hundreds of enslaved people to freedom while advocating for abolition and women's rights.
Murphy, a Wellsville native who returned to the village nine years ago, resided in Southern California for nearly 40 where she had a successful career with Hughes Aircraft Company and UCLA. She oversaw the retirees for both employers.
Murphy is a follower of Christ and her love for Wellsville is secondary to that of her lord," the media release said. Currently, she is the president of the Wellsville Community Foundation.
Murphy began her research and portrayal of Tubman as a gift for her sister and it has since grown into a one-woman show which she has presented in many schools and for many community organizations across the country.
"(Eddie) Murphy considers it an honor to share (Harriet) Tubman's story with us," the media release said.
The show will be held at the Wellsville Carnegie Library, 115 9th St., Wellsville, on Feb. 1 from 1 to 2 p.m. Registration is required and can be done online at www.wellsville-oh.whofi.com/calendar/event/168559 or by calling 330-532-1526.
