Local business owner invests in community

3 min read

EAST LIVERPOOL -- Billy Blake, owner of Maw Maw's Mini Storage and Cutting Edge LLC, has been working to invest in the community with the expansion of his business and the hosting of a free community Thanksgiving dinner.

According to Blake, he hosted a free Thanksgiving dinner at one of his facilities and with help from approximately 15 to 20 volunteers fed close to 200 people. Not a lot of people showed up for the dinner and Blake speculated that it was because the location made it difficult for people who lack transportation to get to. He and the volunteers loaded up the meals in carry out containers and delivered them to places where he knew of people in need.

This was the first community-based project Blake hosted, and he said he plans to evaluate how it went and look at what he can do in the future. He said he is possibly considering more community-based projects for sometime in 2025.

While not wanting to name a price, Blake said he recently invested between $750,000 and $1 million into his storage business with the newest location at 46635 Y&O Road.

Opened in April, the Y&O Road location, which Blake describes as the latest and greatest, is the third one to be opened as Maw Maw's Mini Storage. The other two storage facilities are located at 1807 1/2 Spruce Ave. and 16047 Martha St.

According to Blake, the newest facility is a substantial investment in local business expansion and offers new indoor climate-controlled storage options along with well-lit outdoor drive-up storage units which are under 24 surveillance.

The Y&O Road location also has billboard rental spaces for local business which can range in price from $100 to $250 a month. The lighted billboards are attached to the side of an approximately 90-foot building and can be viewed from the intersection. There are 13 of them for rent.

Billboard space varies depending on the space. The billboards can be rented for anywhere from $100 to $250 monthly.

Anyone interested in storage space or billboard rental can contact Blake by phone at 330-870-5121. Storage space and billboard rental can also be done online at www.mawmawsministorage.com.

Blake noted that with the expansion he was bringing new services to Glenmoor and the East Liverpool area.

Blake also owns Cutting Edge Design LLC, a general fabrication business that offers on-site trainings with subcontractors for Lincoln Electric. He said he trains people on CNC plasma tables and sells all the parts for Lincoln Electric on the plasma tables along with repairs and on-site services.
