EAST LIVERPOOL -- To help with hunger issues in the community, the fifth- and sixth-grade students at Westgate Middle School participated in the cereal box domino challenge.
The cereal box domino challenge is an event that has gone viral, with many schools using it as a way to help combat hunger issues in their area.
Students collect donated boxes of cereal and then set them up in complex patterns and try to topple them all like dominos. The cereal is then typically donated to local food banks.
Westgate students collected approximately 400 boxes of cereal which they used to complete the domino challenge in the school's gymnasium on Thursday.
The domino run was set up by the East Liverpool High School Keramos Yearbook students.
The student who brought in the most boxes of cereal was selected to topple the domino run. Westgate Student Brady Fennell was given that honor after bringing in 59 boxes of cereal.
Major Stephanie Larrick, Salvation Army East Liverpool Corps, was at the event to witness the topple and collect the cereal boxes to stock the organizations food pantry.
Students helped Larrick box up all the cereal and carry it out to a truck donated by Hill International to transport it the Salvation Army's food pantry.
