LISBON -- A new pretrial date was set at 10 a.m. March 4 for former Liverpool Township police chief Jayson Jackson, who's charged with domestic violence for a Dec. 4 domestic incident.
Jackson, 51, who resides in Liverpool Township, appeared for a pretrial Thursday afternoon in Columbiana County Municipal Court for the first-degree misdemeanor charge.
His defense attorney, Chris Amato, had filed a motion for a continuance late Wednesday afternoon, but the request was denied by Judge Kelly Linger.
Jackson remains out of jail on bond. Linger continued the $20,000 cash or surety bond.
According to a Liverpool Township Police report, Liverpool Township police officers were called at 1:14 a.m. Dec. 4 to Jackson's residence by a juvenile who reported adults fighting. Upon arrival, officers were met by a juvenile who was asked to have an adult come to the door.
A woman then spoke to officers who said Jackson choked her and gave her a bloody nose.
Officers then made contact with Jackson in a bedroom and asked him what was going on. He advised nothing was going on and they had both been drinking. He was placed in custody and taken to the county jail, with charges filed in court Dec. 5.
Jackson left law enforcement sometime between late December 2021 and early January 2022 after serving as chief for several years and previously as a police officer. He's a line foreman for the East Liverpool public utilities department
