County Engineer Bert Dawson attended Monday's meeting of the St. Clair Township Board of Trustees where he provided updates on several projects in the township.
Dawson said that the state Route 170 lighting project is moving forward. Currently the concrete bases are being put in. He also noted that there was some difficulty in getting the poles as high as they wanted. The poles will be 40 feet tall to light all five lanes of state Route 170. He believes the project should be completed pretty quickly once they get the poles, which is the hold up right now.
"I'm kind of excited about it and I have been cautioning people to be careful driving across in a convertible once we get this done because there is going to be so much lighting you may get sunburnt," Dawson said.
Dawson said that the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) was very cooperative and that they are sharing the project 50-50. He also said it was going to go down to Calcutta Smith Ferry Road and light the whole strip up.
Dawson also commented on the issues at Calcutta Smith Ferry Road near the ice cream store, saying that Buckeye Water District has repaired that twice and if it doesn't get any better by summer, the county is going to dig that part of the road up. They might mill and excavate then black top that part of the road.
Dawson said that the Calcutta Smith Ferry Road sewer job is done.
Police Chief Brian McKenzie shared with the trustees some figures on the unofficial year-to-date numbers for the police department, noting an increase in bookings and arrests, and talked about the numerous trainings members of the department have participated in.
Road Foreman Scott Barrett said the township's Road Department is ready for the first round of snow. He also said one of the trucks was in for repair and the department's tractor is still down.
Fiscal Officer Deborah Dawson said the November bank reconciliations were complete.
The trustees voted all in favor to adopt a resolution reappointing Robert Wines of St. Clair Township to the Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees for a six-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2030.
The trustees also unanimously adopted a resolution for temporary apportionments (the budget) for the amount of $2,189,568.99 for Jan. 1 through March 31.
Purchase orders totaling $5,250.75, blanket certificates in the amount of $2,732.31 and bills totaling $122,506.45 were approved for payment.
The Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department will be bringing Santa Claus through the Calcutta neighborhoods Thursday through Saturday between 6 to 9 p.m.
All township offices will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 in observance of Christmas New Years days.
There will be a pre-construction meeting for the Midland Fredericktown Road project on Dec. 19 at the township government building at 10 a.m.
The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meet every other Monday at 4 p.m. at the township government building. The regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 30. The annual reorganization meeting will be immediately after.
