Meeting to award bids canceled

City officials had to cancel a special meeting scheduled at noon Friday to award bids for the city’s demolition project due to quorum issues.

As Mayor Ed Wedgewood exited the municipal building to his vehicle around a half hour before the meeting’s original start time, he revealed that the meeting had to be canceled and rescheduled for noon Friday, Nov. 22, due to the inability for him to secure the necessary three council members to constitute a quorum for a legal meeting.

In March, the city had received word they had qualified for the state reimbursement program, which would allow them to raise up to $200,000 for razing blighted structures throughout the city.

On their to-do list for the grant are:

— 233 Ferry St.

— 144 Montana Ave.

–1120 Collins Memorial Drive

— 135 and 184 Alley G.

— 201 and 204 Indiana Ave.

— 272 Louisiana Ave.

–164 and 190 Martins Ave.

— 63 Phaeton Ave.

–166,174, 200 and 228 Fairview Ave.

Bids already have been awarded for asbestos testing on those 14 properties in two groups.

Wedgewood hopes to have the buildings torn down by the beginning of January.
