Policy review underway at East Liverpool Schools

EAST LIVERPOOL — Kenna Haycox, O.S.B.A gave a virtual presentation on policy changes and revisions to the East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education during Thursday’s board meeting.

In her presentation Haycox noted that all the information regarding recommendations on policy revisions, additions, or policies to remove would be available to the board online and in a draft handbook for their review before approval.

The review of policies included all the policies the board has and ones they need to add based on updated state laws.

The board has a couple of weeks to review everything and provide feedback and a couple of months before they have to adopt the policy handbook.

In his report, Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig said the Back to School Bash and the first day of school went well. He noted that he visited each of the schools in the district on the first day and was excited to start the school year.

During the finance portion of the meeting board members unanimously accepted the financial reports, appropriations resolution, amended certificates, the cash summary and cash received, disbursement and receipt reports for July.

They also approved the administrative salary schedule for fiscal year 2025, the Non-public Schools contract with the Educational Services Center, the request for assistance of the Ohio School Board Association (OSBA) legal fund, Board Member Tamar Cooper as the OSBA Liaison and Board Member David Hamilton at the alternate.

During the personnel portion of the meeting the board accepted the resignation of Kimberly Bahen, custodian for retirement purposes effective Oct. 1. Bahen has been with the district for 28 years.

The board approved Ashley Walton for eighth grade cheerleading at a salary of $2,388.17 and Al Johnson for preseason football at a salary of $521.75.

The board also approved a number of event workers, volunteers, seasonal and casual workers, certified appointments and certified and administrative salary adjustments for the 2024-2025 school year.

Handbooks for the 2024-2025 school year were also approved.

A memorandum of understanding with Liverpool Township and East Liverpool police departments for school resource officers also passed with an all-in-favor vote.

The East Liverpool Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the district administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 26.
