SELLING LEMONADE FOR CHARITY

2 min read

Ten-year-old Kendall Laughlin presents Julie Talbert, an art teacher at East Liverpool’s LaCroft and North Elementary schools, a glass of lemonade Friday morning in front of her booth, which is located in front of the former Martin's funeral home located at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Fifth Street in downtown East Liverpool. Talbert, Laughlin's former art teacher when she was a student at LaCroft Elementary School, stopped by to present Kendall a donation for her effort. This is the second time this year that Kendall, who was accompanied Friday by her mother Paige, sold lemonade at the property, which is family owned. Three weeks ago, Kendall raised money for her admission at a basketball game. Paige Laughlin, whose father built the stand, said that her daughter is donating 10 percent of the proceeds to a charity of her choice. For $1, thirsty customers could buy a glass of lemonade, and add either peach, blue raspberry, watermelon or strawberry flavored syrup. Chips and cookies were 50 cents each. Paige Laughlin added that a few weeks ago, Kendall had ran out of her inventory at this location, crediting its traffic count and proximity to the Newell Bridge. The duo hopes inclement weather would hold off so they can sell to the First Friday crowd later that afternoon. (Photo by Stephanie Ujhelyi)
