EAST LIVERPOOL -- Superintendent Jonathon Ludwig told the East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education Thursday that he had attended the Heads Up Scholastic Breakfast hosted by the Columbiana County Educational Service Center (ESC) for the county's top scholars on that morning where two of the district's students were recognized for being in the 97 percentile for their ACT scores and a teacher was recognized after being nominated by a student.
Ludwig also told the board that on May 2, the district will be hosting for the first time the Columbiana County Business Advisory Council meeting.
According to Ludwig, the council traditionally meets in the northern part of the county, but specifically asked to have the meeting in the STEM Lab at the high school to showcase the district's initiative for STEM.
Board member Tamara Cooper told the board that she had received a text from the district's communication director Megan Hernandez who is with the Ohio Schools Public Relations Association telling her that the district received three different awards including the 2024 Excellence Award for Podcasts on the Hill and an award for photography and social media.
During the finance portion of the meeting, board members unanimously approved the financial reports, appropriations resolutions and amended certificates including the cash summary, cash received, disbursement and receipt reports along with approving certificates and final appropriations as presented by the treasurer.
The board also approved contracts with CDW for the renewal of the vape sensors at the high school/junior high and the renewal of Go Guardian software used for student computer protection, a renewal of the contract with Columbiana County ESC for service, contract renewal with Vector Solutions for staff training courses, the CRA agreement for the city of East Liverpool and True North LLC, a quote from West Point Paving to have the district parking lots cleaned and sealed and a quote from Worner Roofing in coordination with Garland Inc. to have the North Elm building roof refinished and sealed.
The board approved the personnel recommendations made by Ludwig, along with resignations.
Resignations approved include Mary Catherine Prostejovsky, third-grade intervention specialist at North Elementary, to be effective May 31; Barbara Schmidt, art teacher at Westgate, for retirement purposes effective May 31; Susan Varner, kindergarten teacher at North Elementary, for retirement purposes effective May 31; and Gwen Croxall, bus driver, for retirement purposes effective June 1.
New hires approved include Barbara Welling, substitute food service and substitute custodial; Amanda Wallace, substitute bus aide; Monte Cook, substitute custodial; Heather Kirby, substitute crossing guard; and Amanda Wallace, substitute bus driver.
The following have been approved for hire as summer workers/seasonal and casual workers for Summer 2024: Marissa Galeoti, Crystal Hanlon, Tammy Wolfe, Tracey Hall, Jessica Long, Mary Cline, Jason Shaw, Hayley Shaw, Elexus Guy, Alissa Butler, Linda Allen, Lisa Mick, Erin Rose, Stanola Armstrong, Ken Rudy, Ashley Jackson, Shelby Stowers, Stephanie Lowe, Cindy Wolfe, Phillip Korchnak, Bill Duck, Josh Fiest and Denver Chisom.
Supplemental employees approved for the 2020-2025 school year include: Ann Inge, Booster Club Advisor at a salary of $1,624.36 and Thara Watson, eighth grade girls' volleyball, at a salary of $2,090.49.
The board also approved the annual fifth grade Camp Fitch trip scheduled for Sept. 16-18, the 2024 Summer School plan, transportation at the board's expense, on April 27, to and from The Willow's, in Industry, Pa., for the Junior/Senior Prom.
The board also approved the senior class trip to Cedar Point and Kalahari in Sandusky, and the class of 2024 graduation list.
The East Liverpool Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the district administration building. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 23.
