EAST LIVERPOOL -- East Liverpool City Council met Monday in a special session to pass multiple pieces of legislation.
Council unanimously adopted one resolution and passed five ordinances before adjourning into an executive session to discuss pending litigation with no action taken.
The resolution adopted gave Safety Service Director Bill Jones the authorization to enter into an agreement with Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for the purchase of salt for Winter 2024-2025.
Ordinances passed included granting the city authorization to enter into an agreement with ODOT to remove a bridge mounted sign and install vandal protection fencing on the bridge carrying Jackson Street over U.S. Route 30; authorizing the city auditor to pay vendors; amending the budget ordinance; repealing ordinance #20; and amending the codified ordinances pertaining to the zoning district map by reclassifying a section from an R-3 Residential to a M-3 General Industrial classification.
According to the ordinance regarding the bridge, the decision was made based on it being in the best interest of the public. ODOT will assume 100% of the project cost.
The ordinance to repeal the previously passed ordinance #20 and pass a new ordinance was needed due to the one exhibit B being attached to ordinance #20 which was for the zoning reclassification for a section of property from an R-3 to a M-3.
The rezoning ordinance was needed to replace ordinance #20 with the correct exhibit attached. The ordinance correctly grants the approval for an application filed by Heritage Transport LLC to reclassify property from an R-3 Residential classification to and M-3 General Industrial classification for the purpose of the company relocating employee and tenant parking so current parking can be used for truck parking.
All legislation passed during the meeting was discussed in a prior joint special meeting of the Finance/Labor and the Planning and Expansion Committees. The legislation all passed by emergency measure on first reading.
There were no committee reports, public portion, or officers reports due to the meeting being a special one called for the sole purpose of passing legislation.
East Liverpool City Council meets in regular session the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in council chambers at East Liverpool City Hall. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 6.
