EAST LIVERPOOL -- Acting on a request made by Marathon Oil, the East Liverpool City Council voted unanimously during its meeting Monday to authorize Planning Director Bill Cowan to send a letter to the Public Utilities Commission requesting the railroad crossing by the old pottery factory on Harvey Avenue be made exempt.
Marathon had previously said that truck drivers being required to stop at the crossing has put them at risk of being rear ended. Making the crossing exempt will eliminate that risk as the drivers would no longer be required to stop at the crossing.
Council also voted unanimously on an ordinance authorizing the city auditor to pay vendors, amend the budget ordinance by adjusting appropriations and authorizing the city to enter into an agreement with the Community Improvement Corp (CIC) to sell or exchange property located on Avondale Street.
The council also approved the reclassification of parcels of property on St. George Street from a R-3 Residential area to an M-3 General Industrial area.
A resolution to accept the amounts and rate as determined by the budget commission and authorize the necessary tax levies and certify them to the county auditor was adopted.
There were no reports to the council from city officials or chiefs during the meeting.
Council members Brian Kerr, chair of Refuse and Recycling/ Public Utilities/Franchise Committee, and Jeff Kreefer, chair of the Safety/Rules Committee, will hold a joint meeting for their committees April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers.
Council member Tom Beagle, chair of the Planning/Expansion Committee, said Scout Solar is expected to resume work on the solar projects for the city in June and he probably won't have any more updates on them until they resume working.
The East Liverpool City Council meets the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in council chambers at East Liverpool City Hall. The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 6.
