Calcutta YMCA to host community open house

By KRISTI R. GARABRANDT 2 min read

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP -- The Calcutta YMCA, 15655 state Route 170, East Liverpool, is inviting the community to come in and see just what their local YMCA has to offer during an open house April 27 from noon to 2 p.m.

The event will feature guided tours of the facility, refreshments, a raffle and opportunities to win free memberships. YMCA staff will be on hand to answer any questions about the facility, their programming, memberships, The Silver Sneakers program and financial assistance.

There will be four free three-month individual memberships given out -- one every half hour during the event

"People don't come in and they don't realize they could have access to the Y at little or no cost to themselves," YMCA Board Member Doug Arner said.

Arner noted that the Calcutta YMCA has recently expanded its operations down the Ohio Valley and has become a regional YMCA.

The Calcutta YMCA has agreements with a couple other YMCAs down the Ohio Valley, with Marietta being one of them.

Arner said there is another YMCA that they are entering into an agreement with to take over operations, but that has not been made public yet.

Arner noted that people who come into the YMCA for a basketball game or swim meet held there are often surprised at what the facility offers, including an indoor pool, gymnasiums, a wide variety of programs and more.

"We are just trying to get the word out there on what we are doing," Arner said. "We haven't quite gotten back to our pre-pandemic level, and we would like to get back up to that. We are close and thought maybe an open house and tours of the facility would help get the word out to the community."
