Wellsville bridge damaged in crash caused by domestic incident

WELLSVILLE -- Ronald P. Sluss, 46, listed address of Ridge Avenue, Wellsville, is scheduled for arraignment this morning in Columbiana County Municipal Court on two counts of domestic violence, a misdemeanor.
These charges came after Sluss was involved in a crash while allegedly involved in a domestic violence situation with his girlfriend on Sunday.
According to Lt. Marsha Eisenhart of the Wellsville Police Department, Sluss was taken to the Columbiana County Jail around 11 p.m. Sunday night and charged with domestic violence, driving under suspension, failure to control, reckless op, criminal damage and failure to report an accident.
While allegedly involved in what Eisenhart called a rolling domestic, Sluss hit and damaged the bridge over Yellow Creek on Wells Avenue by state Route 45 and the Wellsville Marina and then fled the scene.
According to Police Chief Ed Wilson, after leaving the scene, officers stopped Sluss and his girlfriend on state Route 7 after piecing it together and figuring it out. Sluss admitted that he hit the bridge. Officers recovered pieces from his vehicle.
Wellsville Mayor Bob Boley does not have an estimate of the cost of repairing the bridge, nor does he know when the repairs will be done, but he is looking to find out. According to Boley the State of Ohio is responsible for the bridge.
Boley noted he called Bert Dawson and Troy Graft of the Columbiana County Engineer's Office, and they met him at the bridge and told him the damage did nothing to the structure of the bridge.
