ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP – Township trustees voted unanimously in favor of two resolutions that would prohibit the sale of marijuana in St. Clair Township during Monday's Board of Trustees meeting.
The first resolution prohibits any adult use cannabis operators, and the second one prohibits the cultivation, processing and retail dispensing of medical marijuana. Both apply to the unincorporated area of St. Clair Township. The resolution for medical marijuana provides a clause providing an exemption for that grown at universities for research purposes.
The township has signed with a new electric aggregation program. They will no longer use Harbor Energy. The 21-month contract with Dynegy will take effect in March and run through December 2025.
The trustees also approved two applications to work within a township right-of-way for Trotter Lane and the second for Grimms Bridge and Stuart Road.
In his report, Police Chief Brian McKenzie told the trustees that the police department recently did some community training in partnership with North Star Critical Care and the training was well attended. McKenzie said a lot of people at the training had the opportunity to learn what to do while giving police or ambulance time to arrive on the scene to help and that it was a cool thing to do.
McKenzie also said that the department was in the process of putting together a year report for the trustees and the officers were working good.
Road Supervisor Scott Barrett said as of Monday all the equipment was put back together from the last storm and they are all ready for the next one.
There were no reports from either fire department
Payment for purchase orders totaling $24,081.42, blanket certificates totaling $150,375 and bills totaling $112,881.93 were approved.
Township offices will be closed on Feb. 19 due to Presidents Day.
The St. Clair Township Board of Trustees meets everyone Monday at 4 p.m. at the Township Administration Building. The next regular meetings are scheduled for Feb. 12 and Feb. 19.
