LISBON -- Interest in robotics is strong in the Beaver Local School District, with more than 54 teams represented last month in a league competition.
Robotics Advisor Ken Kuzior said during the December board of education meeting that the district had one of the largest leagues in the world of VEX Robotics participate in the competition at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center that month.
The district had teams from both the middle school and high school participate.
Kuzior said that 49 of the district's 54 teams participated in the local competition which was the second round of the League competition.
In other business during the board meeting, District Superintendent Eric Lowe thanked state Rep. Monica Robb Blasdell for her recent visit to read to the elementary students to promote literacy.
He also said that the Blood Drive held on Nov. 14 was a success, with the Red Cross impressed with how many participated.
He also extended congratulations to Silas Rettos and Sara Bailey for being recipients of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award for December.
The board then approved:
Giving a second reading to several NEOLA policies, including facility security, school calendar, employment of personnel for co-curricular activities, care of students with active seizure disorders, animals on district property, transportation, and others.
Participation in winter indoor track for the 2023-24 season.
Ben Wright as softball volunteer, and Tonya Hall and Summer Taylor as school volunteers.
Sue Baumgarner as substitute custodian and Polly Uram as substitute paraprofessional.
Supplemental contracts for Terry Bowyer and Matthew Kidd, for track for the 2023-24 school year.
