EAST LIVERPOOL -- The East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education met Friday morning for its annual reorganization meeting.
During the meeting the board members voted to retain Matt Handley as president and Mario Hernandez as vice president with an all-in-favor vote.
Board members also agreed that with activity happening in most of the board committees, committees would not change.
Monthly board meetings will continue to take place on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
Legal counsel appointed for the board for 2024 include Pepple and Waggoner Ltd. Attorneys at Law, general representation, contract negotiations and litigation/contested Matters; Bricker and Eckler Attorneys at Law, Ohio School Facilities Project Bond Counsel and Ohio School Facilities Project Construction Counsel; Ennis Britton Co., LPA Attorneys at Law, general representation, contract negotiations and litigation/contested matters; Taft, Stettinius & Hollister L.L.P., counsel on grants and community schools; Squire, Patton, Boggs, legal financial advisors; Amanda E. Gordon, McDonald Hopkins LLC, Cleveland, counsel on financing projects
The Review was designated the official newspaper of the district.
Approval was granted for the establishment of Board Service Fund in an amount not to exceed $2 per child enrolled in the district as of the October 2023 count.
A motion passed authorizing board members to participate in group health and dental insurance plans provided to district employees at their own expense.
A motion passed approving board member compensation at $125 per meeting for a maximum of 24 meetings. This is the maximum allowed by law.
Appointment of a legislative liaison for 2024 was tabled for discussion and will be voted on at a later meeting.
Membership for the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund Consultant Service at a cost of $250 for 2024 was also approved.
The board approved a motion to adopt the tax budget and authorize its filing with the Columbiana County Auditor.
The East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., in the district administration building at 810 W. 8th St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 25.
