LISBON -- Columbiana County commissioners reorganized for the year Wednesday, naming Commissioner Mike Halleck as president of the board and Commissioner Tim Weigle as vice president.
"I'm excited about this being my last year," Weigle said.
He previously announced that he wasn't seeking re-election. A Republican, Weigle is in his third term as a county commissioner, but prior to that, he served 23 years as a Unity Township trustee.
During the reorganization meeting, Callie Sowards was renamed the clerk, Beth Duvall was renamed the assistant clerk and weekly meetings were set by resolution to be held at 9 a.m. Wednesdays. The 36 committee appointments were set for commissioners, with the list to be available under the minutes for the meeting on the commissioners' website at cccommissioners.org.
Halleck was authorized to continue to negotiate and sign regarding all matters relating to gas and oil issues, bookkeepers were authorized to transfer within general funds and commissioners approved a resolution to exempt purchase orders of $1,000 or less from the prior certification requirement.
In the regular meeting Wednesday, commissioners accepted all bids for various types of slag, gravel, limestone, salt and ice control materials for this year at the recommendation of the county engineer, appointed Halleck as the County Commissioners Association of Ohio representative and Weigle as the alternate and approved Halleck, Weigle, Commissioner Roy Paparodis, county Engineer Bert Dawson, Shane Patrone, Paul Lease, Lance Willard and Penny Traina as Columbiana County members of the Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association, with Paparodis serving on the executive board.
The commissioners also approved several routine resolutions granting county Department of Job and Family Services Director Rachel Ketterman authority for transferring funds, amended the senior services levy contract to include Debra Grimm as public guardian from Wednesday to Dec. 31 with a spending ceiling of $1,000 and accepted the annual travel authorization summary from 2023 for DJFS.
The next commissioners' meeting will be 9 a.m. Jan. 10.
