WELLSVILLE -- The Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees passed three resolutions during their meeting Thursday.
The first resolution, voted in favor of by all trustees except Tim O'Hara, absent from the meeting, was to adopt the 2024 Operating Budget. The trustees acknowledged having reviewed the budget and determined it to be in the best interest and sound fiscal management for the district.
Following an adjournment into executive session, the trustees voted unanimously to adopt two resolutions regarding compensation and wage increase. One was to adopt a policy to provide additional compensation to the fiscal officer upon obtaining a Certified Public Investment Manager Certificate (CPIM) and to provide payment and reimbursement for seminars and training expenses. The other is for the adoption of a policy to provide wage increases for work in training (WIT) based on employment duration and employee evaluation with employees hired by the district.
Personnel Committee Chair Dean Devitt requested that Greg Beatty, a distribution mechanic who is performing duties for Jason Bahen who is out on an extended absence, be compensated an additional $1.50 an hour for continue to perform the duties for an extended period.
In his report District Manager Al DeAngelis noted that the district has submitted the application to the USDA Rural Development for funding for the Route 39/Russell Heights Water Line Extension and Dredging Project, Hibbitts Mill Water Line Replacement and the Service/Administration Building.
The district has advertised for request for quotes (RFQs) for engineering and architectural services for the Service/Administration Building.
DeAngelis also reported that the district has been awarded a Safety Intervention Grant which will be utilized for a hand valve exerciser. The grant will cover 75% of the cost.
District personnel will be refurbishing filter number one at the treatment plant. An outside contractor will be used to remove the old media and district personnel will replace it with new media.
According to DeAngelis, after looking at all the water rates in the county, the district has gone from having one of the highest water rates in the county to one of the lowest rates as far as the larger providers/areas go.
The district hasn't had a water rate increase since 2008.
DeAngelis noted he would need a meeting with the Engineering Committee, preferably next week to discuss the engineering for the Service/Administration Building. They are working to set a meeting time.
The trustees voted all in favor to accept the treasurer's report, the operation's report, committee reports and the district manager's report as presented to them.
Trustee David Dawson noted that the backhoe ordered by the district is on track for delivery near the end of February.
There was no one present to speak during the public portion and no bid openings, project reports, old business or new business to discuss.
The Buckeye Water District Board of Trustees meets the third Thursday at 9 a.m., in council chambers inside Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 15.
