Wayne Six Toll Bridge undergoes inspection

1 min read

Traffic is constant as vehicles make their way through the Ohio end of the Wayne Six Toll (Newell) Bridge at the end of the work day Thursday. The Newell Bridge and Railroad Company is awaiting the results of the precautionary inspection they requested due to the increased traffic after the temporary closure of West Virginia's Jennings Randolph Bridge, which didn't passed its inspection Monday. The toll bridge's owner Frank Six said that the inspection of his bridge conducted Thursday afternoon appeared to go well; however, he hadn't seen official results as of the rush hour. He said until he receives the inspection results, which also will be shared with Ohio and West Virginia transportation officials, it will be "business as usual." The Newell Bridge had just passed its October inspection; however, the public was concerned about the toll bridge's ability to sustain the increased traffic. The Jennings Randolph Bridge, which drew 10,000 vehicles daily to travel U.S. Route 30 between the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, is expected to be closed for maintenance for at least three weeks.
