LACROFT -- Liverpool Township trustees took eight minutes Tuesday afternoon to reorganize for the 2024 year, after conducting their regular business at their final meeting of December.
Trustee Dennis Giambroni was elected chairman for another year, while Keith Burke will serve as vice chairman for the board, which also includes Mike Bahen.
Their regular meetings will continue to be every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the township administrative building.
Trustees and Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati will continue to be paid a monthly salary as well as be reimbursed for expenses incurred on township business outside township borders.
All employees will be paid mileage at 67 cents per mile, which is the accepted Internal Revenue Service rate.
The following employees will be retained at their current pay rates: Jared Kinemond, police chief; Dave Ward, fire chief; Chris Bosworth, road foreman; Fred Flati, zoning inspector.
Trustees agreed to name a juvenile officer (as needed) and add an evidence technician that will earn an extra 50 cents per hour. They didn't appoint anyone at the time of the vote to either position.
The board also appointed Burke to serve on the Steering Committee for the Columbiana County Township Association and as liaison to the township's road department; Giambroni to the Ad Hoc Committee for the Buckeye Water District and liaison to the township's fire department; while Bahen will serve as not only the township's liaison for employee drug testing but also the police department.
During their regular meeting, which preceded the reorganizational, trustees agreed to reimburse Bahen and Burke a total of $250 for participation in the winter meeting. They also supplemented appropriations totaling $8,836.37 in the Police District Fund for overtime as well as $350 from the Gasoline Fund for Medicare ($100) and Medical/Hospitalization ($250).
As requested by the fiscal officer, trustees also paid warrants and EFTs totaling $39,130.40 and agreed to send a requested letter of recommendation to Comcast, who handled broadband service for Stagecoach and wants to extend it across Columbiana County.
Ward asked for permission to apply for two grants in January 2024 for his department. One is a 50/50 match forestry grant and the other is through the State Fire Marshal's office, which would require the township to pay a percentage if awarded up to $15,000.
Trustees also granted Kinemond's request for purchase of a laser printer for evidence labels in an amount not to exceed $400 and new evidence sheets for an amount not to exceed $400.
Bosworth announced that interviews for a full-time road position would be conducted Jan. 2 and asked trustees to consider purchase of an extended warranty for their 2020 truck as it is preparing to expire in March. He projected that the new four-year extension would cost approximately $3,265 as of today's mileage. No action was taken on this.
Trustees also held two executive sessions for personnel: one for compensation with Kinemond and a second for employment with Bosworth.
The board adjourned at 4:06 p.m. and will next meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the township administration building on Boring Lane.
