Kohler Dental’s Doggy Drive raises $3,000 for dog pound

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Kohler Dental Associates annual Doggy Drive to help support the Columbiana County Dog Pound began in 2018 because, according to Brigette Starkey of Kohler Dental Associates, the entire staff is obsessed with dogs.
The Doggy Drive is held to raise funds and collect much needed items for dogs such as beds, cleaning supplies, treats and more, Starkey said.
"[The dogs are] all such good boys and girls. The ultimate goal is to get these lads and lasses adopted and to bring awareness for the need to rescue animals," Starkey said. "While all animals need a loving home, these are often drop-offs, surrenders or strays who really could use a helping hand. The volunteers and staff at the pound are great and do very selfless work, but need all the help they can get."
The Columbiana County Dog Pound is primarily supported through donations and the help of volunteers.
Starkey said the volunteers often spend their own money to help the dogs. Funding isn't there and the staff at Kohler Dental Associates is trying to help as much as they can. The money they are able to collect is used for the pound's day-to-day operations and to help cover the cost of vet bills.
The staff at Kohler Dental Associates had a goal to collect $1,000 during this year's Doggy Drive.
They exceeded the goal when Dr. John Kohler offered to double the amount and an anonymous donor offered to triple it. The staff were able to present Columbiana County Dog Warden Heidi Jo Wallace with a check for $3,000.
According to Starkey, the fundraiser is typically held in the spring, so there could be another one coming soon.
The office of Kohler Dental Associates serves as the collection point where physical items and monetary donations can be dropped off.
There is also GoFundMe page where donations can also be made.
"The dog pound needs donations year-round, not just when we do the Doggy Drive," Starkey said.
