EAST LIVERPOOL -- During his report to the East Liverpool Board of Education Thursday, schools Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig said it has been a busy and productive week with a lot of meetings held.
Ludwig noted that the district has been awarded a grant to start a drug free club at the high school.
High School Counselors Dawn Pipo and Lori Adkins addressed the board to tell members about the success of East Liverpool High School's third College and Career Fair. Multiple students went on to tour colleges of interest after the fair and one student applied for and was accepted into one of the colleges he learned about during the fair.
Former board member Pat Pershon addressed the board and told members she was repeatedly hearing wonderful things about LaCroft Elementary and just wanted them to know that.
Board members voted to table a resolution to enter into an agreement with Rivertown Center LLC for improvements to a building located at 2340 Dresden Ave. to have further discussions on the matter.
The board members approved the treasurer's report which included financial reports and appropriations, the cash summary and cash received and the disbursement and receipt reports for November.
Also at the treasurer's request, the board approved the renewal of the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) membership for the board members, the renewal of the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund, the license agreement between East Liverpool Schools and Staley Wireless to Lauttamus Holdings and the School Specialty quote to assemble Westgate Furniture.
Under personnel, the resignation of Melissa Ollis for her custodial position at Westgate was accepted effective Dec. 1.
At the request of Ludwig, approval was granted for the hiring of Ollis as crossing guard at Westgate at a salary of $13.37 per hour and Tina Smith as four-hour custodian at Westgate at a salary of $15.41 per hour.
Additional hires approved include Rebecca Rudy, Lisa Mick and Monica Savage as non-licensed substitutes as food service/custodial/crossing guard/secretary workers; Brian Beverly, reserve baseball coach at a salary of $1,770.76; Rammell Tisdale, freshman football coach at a salary of $2,767.98; Brian Beverly, Taylor Blaner, Sarah Bobby, Heather Douglass, Heather Dissette and Stevie Taylor, long-term substitute teachers at a salary of $37,722.46; Al Johnson, Britney Reed and Jeff Shaughnessy, event workers; Kylee Garner, substitute paraprofessional and Kenneth Rudy, substitute bus driver.
The board also approved a salary adjustment for Mary Davis, increasing her salary to $49,133.50.
The East Liverpool Board of Education currently meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the administration building. The next regular meeting date will be determined after the board's annual reorganization scheduled for Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. at the administration building.
