EAST LIVERPOOL -- East Liverpool City Council Monday voted to hold a state hearing on a liquor license transfer from Scotty's Bar to Lena's Lounge.
The Board of Liquor Control sent the notice of the transfer request to the city for any objections and to give them the chance to request a hearing on the transfer of the license.
After some discussion, the council decided to request no hearing because the establishment is already operating.
After Mayor-elect Bobby Smith said he heard six gun shots fired from the establishment and suggested the council look into the police department's records regarding incidents at that location, council member John Mercer said he would contact Police Chief John Lane and see if he wanted a hearing.
After further discussion among council members regarding the need to call a special meeting to vote if they decide to have the hearing for which the state would have to be notified of by Dec. 11, it was decided with an all-in-favor to elect to have the hearing which could be held in the county seat (Lisbon) or in Columbus.
With an all-favor vote council appointed Marilyn Bosco to the Library's Board of Directors.
Council also approved four ordinances during Monday's meeting.
With an all-in favor vote the ordinances to authorize the auditor to pay certain vendors, make temporary appropriations for the current expenditures for the city, to amend the budget ordinance for appropriations and to establish the annual salary for the mayor, law director and auditor were adopted.
The City of East Liverpool is accepting resumes for the position of council clerk. Resumes must be received at city hall no later than 4 p.m. Dec. 22. Council President John Torma noted that current Council Clerk Pat Scafide would be seeking reappointment to the position.
The East Liverpool City Council meets the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at city hall. The next regular meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 2, due to that Monday being a holiday.
