WELLSVILLE -- Fiscal Officer Hoi Wah said in her report during Tueday's Wellsville Village Council meeting that there would be another public meeting Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. in council chambers to continue discussions about and working on plans for the village and the marina with Omega. She noted that in addition to the $150,000 grant the village had been awarded, there is the potential to apply for another grant to help with that progress.
Mayor Bob Boley said that on Nov. 18 the veteran banners hung across town would be coming down and that they were left up for Veteran's Day. Boley noted he does not want to leave the banners hung year-round and have them weathered or damaged. The banners will be taken down through the holidays when the snowflake lights are hung and be put back up in the spring.
Police Lt. Marsha Eisenhart said the department received $5,000 for training from the state and that the two cruisers recently purchased were nearly ready and are waiting for cages.
Council member Ryan Burgess asked if the lots of houses being torn down could be kept by the village and used for community parking areas. Eddie Murphey of the Wellsville Foundation asked if he had seen the strategic plan developed for the village and told him that some of those locations were addressed in the plan. She also noted the idea of additional parking was a good one.
Council passed with an all-in-favor vote two ordinances regarding the village's budget. The first ordinance allows for an increase of appropriations for current expenses and other expenditures of the village for the year 2023 and the second makes a permanent appropriation for the village for current expenses for 2024. Both ordinances passed by emergency measure.
A third ordinance on the budget -- to establish rates for pet burial lots and other fees at The Spring Hill Cemetery -- was not voted on due to questions and further discussion needed. The Claims, Rules and Ordinance Committee chaired by Council member Keith Thorne will meet Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. in council chambers to further discuss the ordinance.
The payment of bills totaling $23,558.95, which includes the $21,900.00 to purchase a new mower for the village, was approved.
Wellsville Village Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Wellsville Village Hall, 1200 Main St. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 21.
