United Way and Heritage Thermal to host second annual Hungry Bowls event

EAST LIVERPOOL --Based on the success of the inaugural Hungry Bowl event hosted last year by Heritage Thermal for the benefit of United Way of Southern Columbiana County, the two organizations have decided to make it a yearly event.
Organizers Raymond Wayne, Heritage Thermal and Candy Falloon, United Way are hoping this year's event will be as successful as the 2022 event which raised over $8,000 and collected multiple boxes of canned food items.
They have received a check from the Columbina County Commissioners for $2,500 which will be matched by Heritage Thermal --a good start to matching last year's funds raised.
Money raised from tickets sales will be added to the $5,000. Tickets are $10 each. The Chinese auction is 26 tickets for $10
Tickets include a bowl of soup, crackers, a cookie, water and a bowl from the Fiesta Tableware Company. There is expected to be more than a dozen types of homemade soups at the event which is meant to emulate a food kitchen atmosphere.
Those attending the event are asked to bring a non-perishable food item with them to donate.
The event will be held at the Salvation Army, 41 East Fourth St., East Liverpool on Nov. 16 from 4-6 p.m.
Tickets are available for purchase now from any United Way board member or at the United Way Office, 527 Market Street, East Liverpool. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
Proceeds from the event will be split between the three food pantries funded by United Way: The Salvation Army, Community Resource Center and Family and Community Services.
Falloon noted that starting last year, she was hearing from the agencies that they were really having a hard time keeping up with people's needs at the food pantries. So they held the Hungry Bowls event right before Thanksgiving last year and it really helped the pantries out.
"We are doing it again this year because I think it's even harder for them this year because there are so many more people in need," she said.
The event will be held at the Salvation Army, 41 East Fourth St., East Liverpool on Nov. 16 from 4-6 p.m.
The United Way accepts monetary donations for the event. Donations can be made by writing a check to United Way of Southern Columbiana County and mailed to P.O. Box 646, East Liverpool, 43920.
Donations are also being accepted for Chinese Auctions items. Donations can be dropped off at the United Office, 527 Market St.
"We are pleased to support this creative event to help fund the food pantries," Wayne said. "People need it."
"It's worthwhile to come and support the people in need," Falloon said, "I hope people come out and support people of the community that are in need because there is a lot."
