LISBON -- A positive outlook is projected for the Beaver Local School District's finances over the next five years.
District Treasurer Stacy Williams told the board of education during this month's regular meeting that the financial forecast "looks great" and is projected to be in the black through 2027.
The district was originally projected to be in the red in the coming years had voters not approved an emergency levy renewal on Nov. 7.
The five-year levy will bring in $1.2 million in property tax revenue a year for the district.
Williams presented the updated five-year forecast to the board, noting that while finances are positive, expenses are still on an upward trend.
She said that it is important that the administration continue to remain diligent as expenses are "increasing at rates we have never seen before and currently outpacing increases in revenue from state and local resources."
In other matters, athletic director Josh Sigler pointed out that the recently painted track looks great and that some fill dirt was also put in at the football field, which is entering its fifth season of use.
Board Vice President Jerry Barnett said he was proud of all the athletic teams for their successful fall campaigns and was glad to hear that students were involved with the blood drive.
Elementary Principal Brianne Hall said that the Breakfast with Someone Special event had nearly 1,200 family members in attendance over the course of the week.
She said she appreciated the support services staff from local EMS, police and fire departments that attended the event, and also along praised the work of cafeteria and custodial staff for their support in making the event run smoothly.
Hall then recognized a number of students with CLASP awards. CLASP stands for Calcutta Lions Award for Student Proficiency. The award honors students who exemplify outstanding character through demonstrating regular attendance, caring behavior, good listening skills, positive work habits and exemplary citizenship.
District Superintendent Eric Lowe also said during the meeting that professional development will be focused on House Bill 123 and Senate Bill 288 to ensure staff has adequate training to meet the standards of the recently enacted laws.
