LISBON -- The Beaver Local School District is continuing to make high rankings, with the middle school recently being recognized by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) as a bronze PBIS school.
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions Support and is a framework for supporting social, emotional, behavioral and learning needs of students.
Middle School Principal Jake Walgate spoke about the recognition during the October board of education meeting and noted that bronze is the highest ranking a school can have in its first year of implementing the program.
He thanked the staff and students for all their hard work in daily providing positive behaviors. He also thanked assistant Principal Mason Seachrist for his efforts in leading the program along with documenting and applying for the recognition through the ODE.
Walgate also noted that the middle school was recognized as a 5-star school, and that he believed they were one of two buildings in the county to achieve that designation.
He again thanked staff and students for their hard work in order to earn this recognition and pointed out that there is a "lot that goes into reaching that level of achievement."
District Superintendent Eric Lowe also spoke about the recent release of the school report card through the ODE.
He said that the performance index measure for the district on the state report card went up slightly for the third year in a row and also shared that among the 20 most comparable districts identified by the ODE the district was fourth in that measure.
He said that the results show that there are areas of strength and areas of growth and that the district will be using the data to assist in growing with both staff and students.
He also noted that the report card is "one snapshot of what goes on in the district" and that he appreciates all of the efforts that happen on a daily basis to foster students to be the best they can be in all areas.
"What staff dedicate to assist students in reaching their potential is key to all around success," Lowe said. "I am very appreciative of the entire school community."
