WELLSVILLE -- The Wellsville school board approved the eighth-grade field trip to Washington, D.C., to take place June 3-4 and the seventh-grade field trip to Byham Theater in Pittsburgh to take place Dec. 14.
The board also approved a resolution to make provisional changes to the board policies and administrative guidelines and forms to comply with House Bill 33 and a resolution for the OAPSE agreement along with the negotiated agreement between OAPSE and the board for the 2023-2024, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years.
During the fiscal portion of the meeting, the board approved the financial report, transfer and modifications of funds, the treasurer's report, permanent appropriations for fiscal year 2024, the certificate of resources for fiscal year 2024, start-up change to Renee Flowers (Nutrition Inc.) for all cafeterias and the purchase of bid properties to be offered at auditor's sale, delegating Superintendent Richard Bereschik and/or Treasurer Maia Amato to represent the board in this matter.
The purchase of bid properties is for property attached to school property and an adjacent lot. The properties go up for auction by the county on Thursday, with bids starting at $5. The district is interested in acquiring the property.
For personnel the board approved the following substitutes: Brenda Brush, Jayne Rose, Sharri Swogger and James Drago.
Coaches approved include Dale Palmer and Allen Bergert, bowling; Diana Landess, bowling volunteer; Jaedyn Hissam, volleyball assistant; and Shane Reed, weightlifting.
Mark Jones was approved as bus coordinator for trips for the 2023-2024 school year and Sheryll Hertzler, Amy Black and Susie Mackey were approved to share the responsibilities of bus coordinator for routes.
Charles Kish and Tyler Ewing were approved as robotics coaches.
Approved for social media specialists were Heidi Schmidbauer and Alicia Hackney.
Entry year teacher mentors approved include Christine Willison, Paula Reiner, Melissa Logan, Sarah Stanley, Shelbie Householder, Emilee Wilson and Maxine Ross.
Tracy Kosek was approved for the Daw Elementary Student Council.
"This has been a year for hire. I'm glad we have substitutes," Bereschik said.
An additional motion approved was the transfer of $20,000.00 from the 001 General Fund to 300 Athletic Fund.
The board voted to go into executive session to discuss personnel. No action was taken.
The Wellsville Board of Education meets the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Wellsville Jr. Sr. High Media Center. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 16.
The district was able to purchase a new school bus which is already being used. The bus, which would have cost over $200,000, cost the district $29,000 after grants were applied.
The district will have a renewal permanent improvement levy on the ballot. With it being a renewal there will be no increase in taxes.
