ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP -- St. Clair Township trustees Monday adopted a resolution to dedicate property owned by the township to be known as Columbia Drive. A ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony will be announced after the Columbiana County Commissioners sign off on the dedication.
A resolution was also adopted to make the sixth payment to Mike Pusateri Excavating in the amount of $481,114.98 for the Columbia Drive Project.
In other business, a resolution to approve an application for Columbia Gas to work within a township road right away was tabled at the request of Road Supervisor Scott Barrett. The application included a request to cut into a portion of Lois Avenue after chip and seal had been completed on the road.
It was decided that the application would be rejected and Columbia Gas would be asked to submit a new application which includes a plan to bore into the street instead of cutting into it and damaging the newly laid chip and seal.
In his report to the trustees Police Chief Brian McKenzie said that the department had two arrests for drug paraphernalia, one for possessing a drug instrument and three warrant arrests. He also noted that there were 25 unclassified arrests and numerous charges that will eventually be produced from drugs taken off the streets each month. These charges are pending test results from BCI.
Calls were down slightly from the previous month, McKenzie reported.
McKenzie made note of several events the police department has coming up which include Trunk-or-Treat, the fill-a-cruiser food drive, the department's toy drive and Cops and Kids. He also noted that he will talk to other area chiefs to determine what day Halloween events will take place since Halloween falls on a Tuesday.
There was no report from the fire department.
Barrett noted that the road department has been busy trimming trees and cleaning ditches along with doing general maintenance patching. He provided the trustees an updated copy of the list of streets for chip and seal.
Prosecutor Bret Hartup from the Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office was present at the meeting and said he would be joining police officers for a ride along following the meeting.
The trustees approved payment of purchase orders in the amount of $6,019.55, blanket certificates in the amount of $19, 007.50 and bills totaling $155,779.76.
The St. Clair Township trustees meet every other Monday at 4 p.m. at the township administration building. The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 25.
