ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP -- Township Trustee Jordan Williams announced during Monday's St. Clair Township Trustees meeting that a ribbon cutting ceremony was in the process of being planned for the newly completed Columbia Drive.
The new road was been approved by the Columbina County Commissioners at their Sept. 14 meeting and the plat was recorded with the county recorder's office Sept. 23. Details on the ribbon cutting will be released after planning is done.
Williams also noted that the main entrance to the Walmart parking lot was closed due to paving until mid-October, leaving only one entrance and exit to the lot, and advised people to be careful.
The payment of warrants and bills totaling $242,522.06 and purchase orders in the amount of $1,655.09 were approved.
Also approved by the trustees was an application submitted to the township by Columbia Gas to work within a township right of way. The application was previously tabled during the Sept. 11 meeting due to concerns over Columbia having to cut through a newly paved road. After meeting with a representative from Columbia Gas it was determined any digging they needed to do would be in the right of way and not the road. Columbia Gas needs to relocate a gas line that goes through a sewer cap and reroute it around. The work will take place on Lois Lane between Meadowbrook and Smith Ferry roads.
The trustees adjourned to executive session to continue contract negotiations with the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) for the police department. No action was taken.
Police Chief Brian McKenzie announced that trick or treat will be Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Calcutta Fire Chief Dave McCoy told the trustees he wanted to commend the road department for their swiftness in clearing the roads after the last major storm that came through.
McCoy also updated the trustees on the trainings the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department has participated in this year, including multiple trainings where the state fire marshal brought in training trailers for grain bin rescues, the burn trailer and the propane trailer.
The Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department will be doing fire prevention training for 652 students in the Beaver Local School District plus 155 students in the Head Start program from Oct. 9-13.
The fire department gained two more EMTs with two of their firefighters completing the EMT class. This gives the department six volunteer EMTs.
The St. Clair Township trustees meet every other Monday at 4 p.m. in the Peter Metrovich Community located at the back of the township administration building. The next meeting will take place Saturday, Oct. 7, at 8 a.m. due to township offices being closed on the next regular meeting of Oct. 9 in observance of Columbus Day. The following meeting will be held at its regular day and time Oct. 23.
