EAST LIVERPOOL -- Miles Johnston, Coral Reef Partners, presented solar options to the East Liverpool City Schools Board of Education during the Thursday night board meeting.
Options were presented on how the district could save money using solar at Westgate and LaCroft. Johnston said the district could save $3.4 million over a 25-year period based off a current rate of 0.089 per kilowatt.
The district had previously heard a presentation from Scout Solar, but officials were not ready to make a decision yet.
Coral Reef is requesting utilities bills from the district and is planning to work up another proposal to include the high school. They will present the proposal at a Buildings and Grounds Committee meeting before the board makes any decisions.
In his report, Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig addressed the state report grades and noted that the district is making improvements with momentum across the district. He also noted the district's number one priority is a focus on attendance and that 100% of the students who did not graduate on time were chronically absent from school.
He highlighted areas the district did well in, such as gap closing, ELHS Career Tech, and noted that the grades and topics where the district beat the overall grade averages.
Ludwig also commended the teachers who were named Teacher of the Month: Cathy Talbert, North Elementary; Melanie Rowley, Westgate Middle School; Amanda Reed, East Liverpool Junior High; Bill Ramsey East Liverpool High School; and Tiffany Rudibaugh, Lacroft Elementary. Ludwig said he was not surprised by the list of teachers awarded.
The board approved the financial reports including appropriations, cash summary, cash received, disbursements and receipt reports for August.
At the treasurer's request, the board also approved the transfer of the class of 2023 balance to the class of 2024 and the agreement between the ESC of Eastern Ohio and East Liverpool City schools for up to 10 days of audiology service during the 2023-2024 school year.
For personnel, the board approved the resignations of Debra Deuley from her position as cafeteria aide and Ashley Parson from her position as paraprofessional.
John Blake was approved as a classified employee for the position of four-hour custodian.
The board also approved for hire the following substitutes: Debra Deuley, substitute custodian; Becky Tice, substitute food service; Susan David, substitute food service, substitute secretary, Kenneth Rudy, seasonal, substitute custodian, substitute crossing guard; Isaac Campbell, substitute custodian; Crista Collins, substitute food service; Karen Kelly, substitute paraprofessional; Renee Stewart, substitute paraprofessional; Alicia Potts, substitute food service; James Freeman, substitute custodian, substitute food service; Paula Miller, substitute custodian, substitute food service; Patricia Salsberry, substitute food service; Kristy Collins, substitute bus aide, custodian, crossing guard and food service; Chantell Barrett, substitute bus aide.
Devon Oliver was approved as a supplement volunteer for the position of volunteer high school boys soccer coach.
Supplemental employees approved for hire include: Jason Croxall, fall drama advisor at salary of $959.94; Stephen (Will) Logston, science department chair at a salary of $466.01, Rick Stanley, ninth grade football at a salary of $3,023.50; Josh Stansbury, assistanct coach varsity wrestling at a salary of $3,223.72; Dakota Ice, middle school wrestling at a salary of $2,667.02; Kaylee Nelson, seventh grade cheerleading advisor at a salary of $2,329.92; Lindsay Ramsey, STEM at a salary of $466.01; Mary Davis, STEM, at a salary of $466.01.
The district through a reduction of force eliminated one five-hour bus aide position and one five-hour bus driver to ABA Therapy in Boardman.
The addition of two supplemental two-hour routes to ABA Therapy in Boardman were approved.
Board Member Mario Hernandez, the district designee for the Fawcett Foundation, noted that the district had received from the Fawcett Foundation $14,525 in grants.
The East Liverpool Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 26.
