EAST LIVERPOOL -- Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has selected East Liverpool as a grant recipient for the Dresden Avenue Phase Two Paving Project.
The city will receive $1,538,687 in federal funding through ODOT's Small City Grant Program.
According to an ODOT news release, ODOT has previously provided 80% of the eligible costs in federal funds through the Small City Program, but with the program utilizing Toll Revenue Credit this year they are able to provide 95% of the eligible cost up to a maximum of $1,538,687.
"Over the past three years we have had a great working relationship with ODOT. They have helped us with many projects in the city, the Elizabeth Street Bridge replacement, U.S. Route 30 and state Route 39 re-pavement," Mayor Greg Bricker said. "We are currently doing Dresden Avenue Phase One which they are paving now, State Route 39 Bridge Replacement. ODOT has helped with millions of dollars in projects in the city to help us move forward."
Phase One of the Dresden Avenue project, which involves the resurfacing of the street from Grant Street to Sixth Street is expected to take three months at a cost of $486,597.
"In the past three years we have gotten over $21 million in grants for the city," Bricker said. "This $21 million does not include the work ODOT has helped us with."
Details on the expected start date and total cost of Phase two were not able to be obtained.
Calls made to Bricker, Safety/Service Director David Dawson and ODOT were not returned by press time.
