WELLSVILLE -- The Wellsville school board approved some additional new hires and events for the coming school at its meeting Monday, the last one before the start of the new school year.
During the new business portion of the meeting, the board members approved with an all-in-favor vote:
-- Mikelle Williams, Amanda Guy, Amanda Winston, Jessica Tice, Natalie Mathess, Alexis English, Joe Saraniti, Terry Foden, Eli Reese, Joe Maczko, and Erin Orr as the parent chaperones for the Camp Fitch field trip which is to take place Sept. 6-8;
-- The acceptance of $160 in monetary donations for the Back to School Bash;
-- A contract for Magic Moments to serve as the school photographer for the 2023-2024 school year;
-- A contract with IV. Student Handbooks for the 2023-2024 student handbooks for the Jr. Sr. High School;
-- A Resolution to Specify the Wellsville Local School District's Intent Not to Provide Career-Technical Education to students enrolled in grades seven and eight for the 2023-2024 school year;
-- A motion to approve a Career-Technical Education waiver for the 2023-2024 school year.
-- A motion to approve the date of April 19, 2024, for the Jr. Sr. Prom to be held at Pine Lake.
For fiscal matters the board unanimously approved the financial report along with transfer and modifications of funds, the treasurer's report, a contract with the Education Service Center for St. Paul's Title I Pooling contract and the St. Paul's Pooling contract.
Also approved was a motion to accept the following Federal Grants for Fiscal Year 2024: Title I in the amount of $390,991.05, 536-9024 Title I-Supplemental School Improvement for $43,105.59, Title II-A for $42,908.33, Title IV-A for $28,750.04, IDEA-B for $202,148.43, Expanding Opportunities for $18,939.41 and Pre-School $110,500.
During a special meeting held Aug. 9, for personnel matters, the board approved the following personnel changes: the resignation of assistant principal Melanie Carfolo and kindergarten teacher Erin Clemmer.
Clemmer was then approved for a one-year contract as the principal for the 2023-2024 school year for Daw Elementary School.
A one-year contract was approved for Melissa Hudson, PhD, to serve as the assistant high school principal.
One year contracts were also approved for Andrew James Arcuragi as intervention specialist and Bridget Henderson as kindergarten teacher at Garfield Elementary.
A motion to approve Jennifer Harris as a substitute teacher and for the spring play supplemental was also approved.
The following personnel changes were approved during the Aug. 21 meeting:
-- Pat Pershon, Terri Flint, Tina Smith, Ann Chamberlain, Linda Lonkert, Pat McNicol, Nicholas Talbot, Linda Swearigen, Lisa Smith and Gerald Barnes as substitute teachers;
-- David Thompson, Joni Bergert, Mark Jones and Nickole Sears as classified staff members and Sarah Saraniti as a nurse;
-- Alaina Kilpatric for extra duties for Federal Programs;
-- Resignation of second-grade teacher Shannon Lyle;
-- A one-year contract for Randi Wolfe as primary intervention specialist pending receipt of necessary documentation and Breann Napierkowski as second-grade teacher at Garfield Elementary.
Motions were approved for a resolution to employee substitute teachers with a one-year temporary non-bachelor's substitute teaching license obtained through the Ohio Department of Education, payment to parents who provide transportation to students because school conveyance has been determined as impractical and a contract with the Columbiana County Educational Service Center (ESC) for technology services for the 2023-2024 school year.
The board members adjourned into an executive session to discuss personnel matters and negotiations and returned to regular session with no action taken.
