St. Clair Police Department swears in new officer

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP -- Austin Mayfield, a recent graduate of the police academy out of the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center was sworn in as an officer for the St. Clair Township Police Department during Monday's trustee meeting.
Mayfield, who is also a graduate of East Liverpool High School and West Liberty University with a degree in Criminal Justice, was sworn in by Judge Megan Bickerton. His father Jim had the honor of pinning his badge on him while his wife Trish and his sisters looked on.
"This profession is hard to find good quality candidates and we are happy that Austin is coming on board with our family here and I think he is going to do really well," Chief Brian McKenzie said.
In other business, the trustees approved a contract for electric aggregation for the township with Dynegy at for electric at the cost of 6.5 per kilowatt hour.
With the retirement of Glenmoor Fire Chief bill Bennett, New Fire Chief Matt Smith was named the township's fire protection officer.
The OTARMA contract was approved for renewal at the cost of $43,976.
The Columbia Drive project is nearing completion as the paving work is set to begin along with the installation of guardrails and painting the lines on the road. Trustee Jordan Williams said there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the road when it's complete.
The trustees approved purchase orders in the amount of $77,250.54 and payment of bills totaling $187.951.42.
The trustees adjourned to executive session to discuss personnel matters with the road department and contract negotiations for the police department. No action was taken.
Township offices will be closed Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day. The St. Clair Township trustees meet every other Monday at 4 p.m. at the Township Administration Building.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 11 and the following meeting will be Sept. 25.
