The East Liverpool City School District Board of Education approved the contract renewals for 62 staff members during its meeting Thursday. Their approval was for 25 one-year contract renewals, 31 two-year contract renewals and seven continuing contract renewals.
Additionally, the board approved seven administrative two-year contract renewals and the non-renewal of all one-year supplemental contracts.
The board also approved the resignations of Nate Latshaw, maintenance worker who is retiring after 34 year; Rachel Dawson, paraprofessional; Whittni Adkins, teacher; Leighann Sampson, teacher; Jennifer Galanis, seventh grade volleyball; Gerald Bartlett, speech and debate advisor; and Charles Payne, volunteer assistant boys soccer.
The board approved the following hirings: Betsy Rose, five-hour bus driver; Justin Tatsch, eight-hour bus mechanic; Travis Gillespie, two-hour crossing guard position; and Patricia Tice, eight-hour custodian.
The following certified teaching employees were approved for hire: Ashley Hunt, speech therapist; Aaron Bunfill, choir teacher; Allison Hupp, seventh- and eighth-grade math teacher; Katie Hamilton, second-grade teacher; Amy Dunlap, music teacher and Carissa Egan, intervention specialist/cross categorical unit.
For summer school the following staff were approved: Jordan Boone, Kristina Holland, Hannah Hughes, Cassie Myers, Pam Schleef, Alexis Dejulio, all for kindergarten through sixth grade; Carrie Bzinak and Lori DeMarco for high school credit recovery; Dave Raghanti, artificial intelligence program facilitator; Sarah Bobby, substitute; and Pamela Hill, paraprofessional.
Extended time was granted for certain employees who may need to work beyond the end school year.
The following employees were approved as supplemental employees for the 2023-2024 school year: Amy Smith, Culture Club advisor; Brian Rudibaugh, varsity boys and girls bowling coach; Josh Reed, girls varsity and elementary basketball coach; Robert Nizer, girls varsity assistant basketball coach; Mary Davis, girls junior varsity basketball coach; Jeremy Shaw, wrestling coach and K-12 wrestling advisor; John Shaughnessy, basketball coach; Kade Reynolds, boys junior varsity basketball coach; Aaron Bunfill, vocal extracurricular; Darlene Vantilburg girls tennis coach; Kim Creaturo, freshman class advisor and Jamie Fredritz, detention monitor.
Jacqueline J. Hyde was approved as the confidential administrative assistant to the superintendent.
The board approved a motion to issue payment for professional development stipends.
For fiscal matters the board approved the submission of the November 2022 Five Year Forecast to the Ohio Department of Education, agreements for the district's gas and electric suppliers and to renew the contract for the 2023-2024 drug testing provider, Great Lakes BioMed.
The board adjourned into an executive session to discuss personnel matters with no action taken.
The East Liverpool Board of Education usually meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., but this is subject to change during the summer months. If meeting dates or time changes a notice will be issued.
The next board meeting is currently scheduled to take place June 22.
