A Burgettstown, Pa. man, who is accused of stabbing the owner of a downtown city restaurant during a dispute over money Friday, was still on the loose as of Sunday.
Authorities have issued warrants for Joshua L. Atwood, 30, on charges of armed robbery and malicious assault, after he allegedly entered the Crazy Donkey, 442 Chester Ave., at 6:34 p.m. Friday and stabbed the restaurant owner in a dispute over allegedly unpaid wages.
According to the police press release issued Saturday afternoon, Atwood had done various handyman jobs for the victim, Jose Mocias-Onate, in the past and accused the victim of still owing him money for a recent job. After the men began arguing in a kitchen area, Atwood grabbed money from a cash drawer and began to exit. As the men began grappling, Atwood dropped a handgun so he drew a concealed knife, stabbing Mocias-Onate before retrieving the firearm and leaving the business as witnesses looked on.
Police and Hancock County Sheriff deputies responded shortly later and were given Atwood's clothing description and direction of travel before a search ensued.
Mocias-Onate was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being redirected to a Pittsburgh area trauma center where he was treated and released. The Chester Volunteer Fire Department and Hancock County Ambulance service also assisted at the scene.
Hancock County's dispatch center also was able to get as much information to surrounding agencies as quickly as possible.
"The combined effort of all agencies involved was instrumental in the efficient handling of this incident," explained Chester Police Chief Chuck Stanley.
The suspect still is at large. Based on information gathered, Atwood is believed to still be in Pennsylvania. He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call dispatch at 304-564-4100.
