LIVERPOOL TOWNSHIP -- Liverpool Township trustees Tuesday approved with unanimous vote to adopt changes to the personnel policy handbooks for the township's employees and the police department.
Three changes made to the police department's policy concerned vacation time, longevity pay and seniority.
The changes once they go into effect will give full-time officers two weeks vacation time after one year, three weeks after five, four weeks after 15 and five weeks after 20. Longevity pay will remain the same for the first 15 years of service. Officers will receive an additional 25 cents an hour after every five years of service. After 15 years of service officers will receive a 50 cent hourly increase for every five years of service. The previous policy allowed seniority to remain intact without continuous service. Now to maintain their seniority officers will have to have continuous years with no gaps with the department.
The trustees also approved $3,500 to the road department to purchase a saw and plate compactor to help them ready Candle Street and Lantern and Lighthouse drives for paving. Paving is expected to start on these streets later in the summer. They also approved $700 for the street department to purchase tires for one of the service trucks.
Road Supervisor Chris Bosworth said the chip and seal and the weed spraying along township buildings is complete.
Police Chief Jared Kinemond said he applied for a $2,000 grant which he hopes if approved can go toward the purchase of new body cams.
Fiscal Officer Shirley Flati said she is working on the 2024 budget for next year and it is nearly completed.
Trustees approved the payment of bills in the amount of $148,070.80 along with supplemental appropriations in the Fire District Fund for $16,640, the Police District Fund for $14,000 and the reallocation of appropriations in the Road and Bridge Fund in the amount of $393.03.
Trustee Dennis Giambroni said that the Litter Program will have its first litter pick up June 10 from 9 a.m. until noon.
The East Liverpool Township Trustees meet every other Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the township Administration Building. The next meeting is scheduled for June 13.
