LISBON -- The jury trial of Tyrell Travers, charged with aggravated murder in the May 2021 shooting death of Dion McMillon, remains set for May 23.
During a final status conference on Friday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court, county Assistant Prosecutor Steve Yacovone said there are ongoing negotiations. He indicated that he and Travers' defense attorney Walter Madison have talked about a date for making a decision regarding plea negotiations.
At this point, though, there has been no resolution.
Madison expressed some concern about making sure his client gets a haircut before trial, with Judge Megan Bickerton telling him to get that set up. He was also told that a barber goes to the jail, but can only bring clippers.
Travers, 25, Clover Avenue, Wellsville, remains jailed under a $1 million bond. He was indicted in January 2022 for aggravated murder and murder, both unclassified felonies with a firearms specification, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. He could face a prison term of 15 years to life for the murder charges, if convicted, plus an additional three years for the firearms specification and three years for the tampering charge.
McMillon, 26, was found dead in his car from an apparent shooting May 19, 2021 while the car was parked near Virginia and Mapletree streets in East Liverpool.
Family members of both the victim and the defendant attended the hearing.
