EAST LIVERPOOL - Schools Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig is promoting the success of the district's Bingo for Books and the Westgate Robotics Team.
In his report to the East Liverpool school board April 27, Superintendent Ludwig told the board members that he was pleased with the success of Bingo for Books, which gave away over 6,000 books to the 220 students and 160 parents who attended the event, and that the Potterbots, the Westgate Robotics Team, will be heading to a competition in Dallas, Texas. He also said that the district has recently been awarded a $600,000 safety grant.
In other business, the board approved the cash summary report, disbursement report and donations for March; the purchase of a new condensate receiver from Alcon Mechanical at a cost of $18,480; the renewal of the contract with Legacy Studios by JJS for the 2023-2024 school year at an amount of $11,500; the purchase of ViewSonic Boards for both elementary schools from Insight; and the purchase of K-4 MyView Literacy Curriculum at a total cost of $271,920.
For personnel, the board approved the following resignations: Dorothy Orlo, Title 1 teacher at North Elementary; Constance Todd, teacher at North Elementary; Tami Drago, teacher at LaCroft; Carolyn Allison, teacher at LaCroft Elementary; Alaina Cornfield, band director at East Liverpool High School; Stephanie Demster, school counselor at Westgate; Mackenzie Greene, speech and language therapist; Gregg Harding, Culture Club advisor; Jeffrey Cornfield, varsity golf coach at East Liverpool High School; and Janet E. Toot.
The board also approved the hiring of the following summer workers for 2023: Linda Allen, Stanola Armstrong, Connie Brown, Mary Cline, Marisa Galeoti, Daniel Howe George, Makayla Gillespie, Lexi Guy, Tracey Hall, Phillip Korchnak, Stephanie Lowe, Ruth Mays, Bobbie Jo Nelson, Melissa Ollis, Ashley Parsons, Selena Rodgers, Randi Salmons, Hayley Shaw, Jason Shaw, Tina Smith, Shelby Stowers, Cindy Wolfe, Laura Rowe and Crystal Hanlon; and casual and seasonal employees Denver Chisom, Chris Davis, Travis Gillespie, Ashley Jackson, Phillip Korchnak, Lisa Mick, Scott Rodgers, Greg Voorhees and William Duck.
Tricia DiThomas was approved for the 3.5 hour cafeteria worker at East Liverpool Junior-Senior High School at a rate of $13.43 per hour and Baney Willis was approved as substitute paraprofessional.
The board also approved the addition of a second eight-hour bus mechanic.
Supplemental employees approved include Nathan Conley, varsity boys head basketball coach at a salary of $6,277.78 and as elementary boys basketball coach at a salary of $2,405.91; William Miller, varsity assistant boys basketball coach at a salary of $3,223.72; Julie Voorhees, varsity swimming coach at a salary of $3,311.94; Jeffrey Wright, varsity assistant wrestling coach at a salary of $3,223.72; Charlie Payne, volunteer boys soccer coach; and Barbara Schmidt, Westgate hall monitor (30-minute position).
The following certified teaching employees were approved by the board: Leslie Dawson, East Liverpool Junior-Senior High School health instructor; and Matthew Karpinski, East Liverpool Junior-Senior High School exercise science instructor. Event workers approved for hire include Dana Vulgamore, Tyler Ossman and Michelle Smith
The Fourth Annual Run Away from Drugs 5K was approved for May 13 in downtown East Liverpool near the hospital. The event will be organized by Matt Karpinski.
The East Liverpool High School Class of 2023 graduation list was approved based upon the students completing the requirements set forth by the board of education and the Ohio Department of Education.
The East Liverpool Board of Education meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the district's administration building. The next meeting will take place May 25.
