EAST LIVERPOOL - Brad Lawrence will be the 149th commencement speaker for the East Liverpool High School Class of 2023 Sunday, May 28 in the ELHS Potter Fieldhouse at 3 p.m.
Lawrence is a proud East Liverpool High School graduate of the ELHS Class of 1990. After graduation, he attended Carnegie Mellon University earning a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and continued on at engineering graduate schools at the University of Pittsburgh and North Carolina State University, culminating in a Ph.D. in Biomechanical Engineering.
In parallel to his academic career, Lawrence started his professional career at IBM as a User Experience (UX) Researcher, followed by various UX roles at Dell before transitioning to the field of Product Management.
He now works at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Here he plans the product portfolio of the next-generation and next-next generation of computer chips and CPUs that will help define the future of IT and advance progress in cutting edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, genomics, virtual and augmented reality, and datafication as smart devices continue to proliferate.
Lawrence is the son of Jill Lawrence, who taught elementary school at North Elementary for over 30 years. Sharing his mother's passion for education, he has received an invitation from the University of Texas to join their adjunct faculty staff and plans to begin teaching next fall.
Lawrence resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Lindsey and his daughter and two sons. In his free time (when it exists), he enjoys playing tennis, basketball, rugby and competing in Scottish Highland Games.
