WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville Board of Education member Rick Salsberry announced at Monday night's board meeting that he will not be seeking re-election when his term expires at the end of December, and he would support anyone who wants to fill the position.
Superintendent Richard Bereschik said that the district applied for a grant of $750,000 and expects to receive that amount. He said the district also received a cafeteria grant for $50,000 to purchase new equipment.
According to Bereschik, the company installing the weapons detectors the district recently purchased has been busy keeping up with demand and will have the detectors put in place during the summer.
Under new business, board members unanimously approved the Senior Handbook for the Class of 2023, field trips for the Senior Class Banquet Gateway Clipper, the Varsity Baseball Team Hundred, for first-grade students, Living Treasures Wild Animal Park.
For the NEOLA Board Policy Annual Review, the following polices have been selected: Homeless Students/including waiving of any school fees, Student Technology Acceptable Use and Safety, Program Parent and Family Member Participation /Title I Programs and Finances - Procurement -Federal Grants/Funds.
The Board approved a motion to enter into an agreement with META Solutions, a purchasing consortium in conjunction with a Veregy grant application.
For fiscal matters the board approved the treasurer's report and the Then and Now Certificates.
In personnel matters the board approved a motion to non-renew Corey Creamer for girls varsity head basketball and girls elementary basketball coach. The vote went as follows: Frank Williams and Chris Amato abstained, and Austin Dalrymple, Gary Althiser and Rick Salsberry voted in favor.
There was a non-renewal of athletic and classified supplemental contracts for: football assistant coaches Jon Carter, Rob Long, Jimmy Thirtyacre, Randy Thrasher, Shawn Carter; jr. high football Jesse Jackson and Derrick Suggs; weightlifting and summer physical fitness Alvan Thompson; golf Nick Bayer; volleyball head coach/elementary, Jonathan Stokes; assistant Chris Amato; seventh and eighth grade Natalie Mathess; basketball girls assistant Abbey Minamyer; girls jr. high Randy Thrasher; boys seventh grade Jalen DeSarro; boys varsity assistant Lonnie Fields; boys eighth grade Alvan Thompson; bowling Dale Palmer, (Paul) Allen Bergert; baseball head coach /elementary Justin Gerren; assistant coaches Jim Thirtyacre, Domanick Michael; volunteers Nick Bayer, Seth Kerner; wrestling volunteer head coach Gary Althiser; varsity assistant Justin Gerren, Thomas Redman IV, Skyler Lasure; jr. high Nate Ketchum; softball head coach Jeff Weekley; assistant coach Sherri Weekley; track head coach Randy Thrasher; assistant coach Lonnie Fields, David Thompson; jr. high Justin Gregg, Nate Scott; volunteer Tom Redman IV; and junior class advisor Marie Martin.
A motion to approve a two-year contract (2023-2024, 2024-2025) for Nate Scott as boys' head basketball and elementary basketball coach passed with an all-in-favor vote.
A motion to non-renew all certificated and non-certificated substitutes passed.
A motion to approve the following contract renewals: attendance coordinator Linda Rolley and special education and testing coordinator Susan Frampton was approved.
Limited teaching contract renewals were approved for Trisha Guglielmo, Racheal Kline, Mitchell McDowell, Matt Ohlin, Tyler Ewing, Lindsay Clifton, Leah Prescott, Aaron Bunfill, Erin Clemmer, Danette Frischkorn, Alicia Hackney, Shannon Lyle, Valerie Reese, Jenna Stoddard, Nate Harper and Katey Lora.
Approved for extra duty under personnel was Alaina Kilpatrick for Federal Programs.
Approved for interim positions were: Jenna Stoddard as interim athletic director and Karen Elliott as interim bus transportation coordinator.
A motion to approve a Title I Service Teacher agreement with John King Mussio Elementary to provide necessary services to a Wellsville Local School District student was also approved.
The board entered into an executive session with no action taken.
The Wellsville Board of Education meets the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Wellsville Jr. Sr. High School Media Center. The next meeting is scheduled for May 15.
