WELLSVILLE -- Area churches came together in Wellsville to celebrate Good Friday with a cross walk down Main Street.
Members from First Christian, First Baptist, Living Well, Yellow Creek, Grace Presbyterian, River, Destiny, Pleasant Heights Baptist, Hammondsville United Methodist, Covenant Presbyterian and African American Methodist Episcopal churches participated in the walk.
Walkers gathered at the Gazebo at Main and Fourth streets and made the little over three quarter of a mile walk down Main Street, through the center of the village to Elevate Worship Center, 1329 Main St., led by Caleb Hanlon, 15, a member of First Baptist Church carrying the cross.
Wellsville Police Department participated with a unit leading the walk and units following behind the walkers as they made their way down the center of the street.
The event is conducted by the Ministerial Association and was not sponsored by any one church.
The cross walk is done every Good Friday to portray the walk of Christ with the cross to Mount where he was crucified.
Following the walk, Pastor Mark Blakeley of the First Christian Church Wellsville gave a Good Friday Sermon and Sharon Miller sang "Written in Red," followed by food and fellowship at the Elevate Worship Center.
