EAST LIVERPOOL --East Liver Mayor Gregory Bricker had decided not to run in the Nov. 7 General Election.
Bricker, whose first term as mayor will end on Dec. 31, based his decision on not seeking a second term on needing to focus on the family business, Bricker's Cafeteria, and his own business, Bricker Financial Planning. Also, with his wife Katie expecting their second child, Bricker wants to devote more time and attention to his family.
During his time in office, Bricker has focused on the housing issues and working to remove blighted properties posing risks to the area with the homeless population --using the abandon houses as shelter which has resulted in several fires.
Bricker feels that most of the projects initiated during his term, such as funding for Thompson Building project, are nearly completed or will come to fruition by the end of the year.
During his term in office, the city has received over $7 million in grant money for a variety of projects.
Bricker said that his goal during his time as mayor was to bring the city back to life and that has been started with the addition of the murals throughout the city, bringing in a pickleball court, and working with developers and new properties owners. There have been 15 new business property owners come to the downtown area investing money into the properties over the past three years.
The Columbiana County Board of Elections shows Darlene S. Kinsey (D), as running uncontested for the mayor's position. According to Bricker there is the potential for some one else to throw their hat into the race as an independent.
