LISBON -- East Liverpool City Hospital is seeking more than $6 million in damages after claiming an insurance company is failing to pay the bills of patients.
In Common Pleas Court, Prime Healthcare Foundation is seeking restitution from Aetna Health Inc. for breach of contract. According to Prime Healthcare, Aetna Health allegedly refused to pay East Liverpool City Hospital for the medical services it provided to Aetna Members, without valid reasons for doing so. As a result, Prime Healthcare has issued a complaint and requested that all payments withheld be paid, including interest and penalties, an amount of over $6 million.
East Liverpool City Hospital, part of a community-based health system owned and operated by Prime Healthcare, has won numerous awards for the high quality of their patient care. Additionally, they have been awarded numerous Five-Star Awards from Healthgrades for their outstanding clinical treatment and have been on the "100 Top Hospitals" list multiple times. They have continued to provide medical care to Aetna Members, although Aetna continues to refuse to pay. It is East Liverpool City Hospital's right to add additional denied claims submitted after the complaint to the sum owed. They are also requesting a jury trial on all triable issues of the complaint.
