Lisbon hires new high school math teacher

LISBON – In preparation for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year, the Lisbon Exempted Village Board of Education is taking care of personnel matters. One new acquisition, high school math teacher Linda D’Ippolito, comes to the district highly recommended, said David Anderson principal Keith Edenfield. “Linda came strongly recommended to us by Mr. Hlaudy who we hired last year for chemistry and physics,” Edenfield said, adding that the recommendation did not disappoint.

D’Ippolito has a one-year limited certified contract effective July 1 through June 30, 2023. Edenfield said between D’Ippolito now handling math and Steve Hlaudy in chemistry and physics ushers in a new era for the school. “D’ippolito and Hlaudy is for the new era,” Edenfield said. “We solved half that equation last year hiring Mr. Hlaudy. Now we have the other side solved with this hiring. Our math program is in good hands.”

Edenfield said he learned something during her interview process that made him happy to hear. “What makes me feel really good about the process is through the process, she shared with us that Mr. Hlaudy had recommended the district and the people in the district to her as much as he recommended her to us,” he said. “I think it’s a great fit all the way around.”

Superintendent Joe Siefke said D’Ippolito joins Lisbon schools with the highest recommendation that he can give. “She gets it,” he said. “She gets education. She understands. I didn’t ask her one math question during the interview and I was sold.”

Board members also approved one-year certified contracts effective July 1 through June 30, 2023 for David Crismon for physical education and health and James Watt for biology and STEM. Siefke said next school year will be Watt’s last with the district. “He is heading to Argentina to live with his daughter,” Siefke said. “Mr. Watt and Mr. Crismon are veteran teachers who do a great job. We are happy to have them and I’m happy to recommend them to you.”

The board also approved the McKinley Elementary School and David Anderson Junior/Senior High School extended learning for summer education opportunities for the following dates and personnel at a pay rate of $100 per day for 2022 summer school:

June 6 through 10 – Quin Ferrier and Sarah Devon at McKinley Elementary

June 13 through 17 – Quin Ferrier and Sarah Devon at McKinley Elementary

June 20 through 24 – Quin Ferrier and Sarah Devon at McKinley Elementary

June 27 through July 1 – Quin Ferrier and Sarah Devon at McKinley Elementary

August 1 through 4 – Quin Ferrier and Sarah Devon at McKinley Elementary

August 8 through 12 – Quin Ferrier and Sarah Devon at McKinley Elementary

June 6 through 9 – Carrie Smith, social studies at David Anderson Junior/Senior High School

June 13 through 16 – Carrie Smith, social studies at David Anderson Junior/Senior High School

June 20 through 23 – Ryan Smith, math at David Anderson Junior/Senior High School

June 27 through 30 – Carrie Smith, English at Anderson Junior/Senior High School

Siefke said high school summer school will be from 8 a.m. to noon and the elementary students will be there from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and they will be able to benefit from the summer feeding program. “We have feeding programs coming out of McKinley so all those kids will get fed and we will shuttle meals up to the other building to make sure the kids can grab something on their way out the door at noon when they are done,” he said.

The board also voted to establish a part-time seasonal custodian for the summer at a pay rate of $10 an hour. Valerie Hochmann will be taking on the role which is not to exceed 30 hours per week. “We will look for a few others once school is out, potentially students,” Siefke said.

Linsey Petersen and Katrina Wallace both will be preschool aides for the 2022-2023 school year. The board approved one-year limited classified contracts effective July 1 through June 30, 2023 for the two. “Our preschool grant comes out of this funding for our preschool aides. The grant is on a year-by-year basis. That’s the reason for the only one year contract. Those two are doing a great job and will do a great job,” Siefke said.

The board also approved Amanda Huelett as a classified substitute bus driver for the 2021-2022 school year. Siefke said Huelett is the bus dispatcher and since she has a license, she can help with driving students on trips.

In athletics, the following 2022-2023 athletic supplemental contracts were approved: Nikol Mundy as head varsity cross country coach at a rate of 5.25 percent; Meredith Deichler as assistant cross country coach at two percent; Lauren Glenn as eighth grade volleyball coach at 4.25 percent; Kenadee Pezzano as assistant varsity volleyball coach; Artie Altomare as assistant football coach at nine percent; Seth Davis as assistant football coach at nine percent; Rich Joy as assistant football coach at nine percent; Phil Goerig as assistant football coach at nine percent; David Toot as assistant football coach at nine percent; Danny Donohue as eighth grade football coach at 6.75 percent; Dave Rankin as seventh grade football coach; Candice Welsh as assistant varsity cheerleading coach at 5.4 percent.

Board members also voted to approve Kyle Bing and Bill Stanton for the Ohio High School Athletic Association baseball and softball tournaments this year. Site manager Bing will be paid $300 per game and ticket manager Stanton will get $200 per game. Siefke acknowledged the rates seemed a bit high, but said he sits on their northeast board and that the rates are fully refundable from the OHSAA. “That board has decided to give money back to the schools through ticket managers and site managers because we are doing pretty well financially,” Siefke said.

The next board meeting will be at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22.
